    Notes: It is shown that the acetylation of synthetic crustaxanthin with acetic anhydride in pyridine yields the tetraacetate and not the diacetate as claimed. Even more voluminous reagents such as bis-trimethylsilylacetamide, pivaloyl or 1-adamantoyl chloride give rise to tetraester. The identification of these derivatives was accomplished through spectral data.
