Notes: Cobalt Chelate Complexes as Hydrogenation Catalysts. The Reduction of Nitro Compounds to Amines with Carbon Monoxid and Water as Hydrogenation AgentCobalt complexes of tetradentate chelating agents have been found to catalyse the selective homogeneous reduction of nitroaryls to amines with carbon monoxide and water at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The cobalt complexes are highly specific. Dinitroaromatics can be reduced to the intermediate nitro amines in good yields; mixtures of nitroaryls can be reduced likewise sequentially. The reaction rate depends on the pH of the reaction solutions.
