A fluid polysulfide melt with the stoichiometric composition of Na2S3 has been prepared by sulfurizing solid Na2S at a temperature of about 550° C. On heating Na2S3 (solidification point 230°), decomposition to Na2S1.9 occurs. Na2S1.9 (m. p. 460°) is stable up to 1260°. At higher temperatures further dissoziation into Na2S1.37 is observed. The Na2S1.37-melt solidificates, in the temperature range from 830 to 650°.

Durch Schwefeln von festem Natriumsulfid, Na2S, bei einer Temperatur von etwa 550° C entsteht eine fluide Polysulfidschmelze der stöchiometrischen Zusammensetzung Na2S3.Diese Schmelze ist beständig bis 630° C, ihr Erst.-P. 230°. Bei Temperatursteigerung dissoziiert dieselbe bis zu Na2S1,9. Na2S1,9 erwies sich als Schmelze beständig bis 1260°, ihr Erst.-P. ist 460° C.Bei Temperatursteigerung über 1300° bis auf 1500° erfolgte weitere Zersetzung bis zu Na2S1,37, einer Schmelze mit einem Erst.-Intervall von 830-650°.
