Complex compounds of the general composition [VCl3{OPR3}2] the non-electrolytic Character of which has been proved by measuring the conductivity are formed of tertiary aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic phosphine oxides and anhydrous VCl3 in dioxane xylene and bromobenzene.Tertiary aliphatic phosphines react with VCl3 yielding complexes of the formula [VCl3{PR3}2]. The reaction of tricyclohexyl or triphenylphosphine with VCl3 results in compounds of varying atomic ratios which are suggested to dimerise partially into binuclear complexes [VCl3PR3]2.In phosphine and phosphine oxide complexes of VCl3 vanadium has the coordination number 5.

Aus tertiären aliphatischen, cycloaliphatischen und aromatischen Phosphinoxyden wasserfreiem VCl3 entstehen in Dioxan, Xylol bzw. Brombenzol Komplexverbindungen der allgemeinen Zusammensetzung [VCl3{OPR3}2], für die durch Leitfähigkeitsmessungen ihr Nichtelektrolytcharakter bewiesen wurde.Tertiäre aliphatische Phosphine bilden mit VCl3 Komplexe der Formel [VCl3{PR3}2] [VCl3{P(C2H5)3}2] lag in Benzol monomer vor und erwies sich als Nichtelektrolyt. Umsetzung des Tricyclohexyl- bzw. Triphenylphosphins mit VCl3 führt bei 250-300°C Schmelzfluß zu Verbindungen, deren Atomverhältnis V:Cl:P, das durch die Darstellungsbedingungen bestimmt wird, in den Grenzen 1:3:1,3 bis 1:3:1,8 variiert. Es angenommen, daß sich die Komplexe [VCl3{PR3}2] unter Phosphinabspaltung teilweise zu Zweikernkomplexen [VCl3PR3]2 dimerisieren.In den Phosphin- und Phosphinoxydkomplexen des VCl3 betätigt das Vanadin die Koordinationszahl 5.
