Description / Table of Contents:
By dissolving HgF2 · 2 H2O which still contains excess HF in pyridine or by reaction of yellow HgO with PyH · HF2, and subsequent chilling, the crystalline (C5H5N · H)2HgF4 · 2H2O separates. Crystallization from absolute methanol yields the anhydrous compound. More conveniently it is produced from a methanolic solution of PyH · HF2 and yellow HgO.The homologous compounds (α-picoline · H)2HgF4 and (2,G-lutidine · H)2HgF2 have been obtained also as colourless crystals. They are readily soluble in cold water and methanol.(Py · H)2HgF4 reacts with NH3 to form a diammine, (NH4)2HgF4 · 2 NH3, which is converted i. v. into Hg2NF · NH4F by splitting off NH4·F (PyH)2,HgF4, can be applied as a fluorination agent. It converts C6H5COCl, C6H5SO2Cl and ClCH2COCl with good yields into the according acid fluorides. In addition to (Py · H)BF4, and Hg(Py)2→4(BF4) Hg(Py)2SiF6· 2H2O being slightly soluble in organic solvents has been prepared by interaction between H2SiF6, py, and HgO. It is also precipitated almost quantitatively on adding H2SiF6 to a methanolic solution of (Py · H)2HgF4.
Notes:
