By use of modern methods the crystal structure of BaCdO2 has been determined. The orthohombic unit cell [a = 3.660; b = 6.168; c = 11.950 Å; space group Pmnb - D2h18] contains 4 formula units; dx = 6.94, dpyc = 6.86 gcm-3. With the last refinement, R and R' fall to 0.058 and 0.075, respectively (sin ϑ/λ ≤ 0.950). The total arrangement is related to them of (SrZnO22). But here Cd is surrounded by 5 (4 + 1) O-neighbours [trigonal bipyramidal] while each Zn has a tetrahedral arrangement of 4 O-neighbours. Therefore the 2-dimensional [ZnO2]-arrangement is replaced by a 3-dimensional one. Ba is situated at holes, being surrounded by 7 O.

Die Kristallstruktur des BaCdO2 wurde unter Verwendung moderner Methoden bestimmt. BaCdO2kristallisiert orthorhombisch in der Raumgruppe D2h16 - Pmnb. Die Elementarzelle mit a = 3,660, b = 6,168, c = 11,950 Å enthält 4 Formeleinheiten (dRÖ = 6,94; dpyk = 6,86 gcm-3). Für die Reflexe (0 k l) im Bereich bis (sin ϑ/λ = 0,950 ist R = 0,058 und R' = 0.075. Der Aufbau des BaCdO2 ist dem des SrZnO22) weitgehend verwandt. Jedoch ist hier beim BaCdO2 jedes Cd nicht von vier O tetraedrisch, sondern von 4 + 1 O verzerrt trigonal-bipyramidal umgeben. Hierdurch geht der Charakter eines 2-dimensionalen Gerüstes zugunsten einer 3-dimensionalen Verknüpfung verloren. Jedes Ba hat 7 O-Nachbarn und ist in vorhandene Lücken eingelagert.
