The conditions for preparing the Be-richest phase in the system Be/B are examined. The compound has the composition Be4B. The unit cell is tetragonal, space-group P 4/nmm, with 8 Be and 2 B atoms within the cell. The positions of the atoms are determined by two-dimensional FOURIER syntheses and refinement. The structure of Be4B is discussed with respect to the tendency of boron to share 8 electrons.

Die Zusammensetzung der berylliumreichsten Phase des Systems Be/B wird zu Be4B bestimmt und ihre Darstellungsbedingungen und Struktur untersucht. Die tetragonale Elementarzelle enthält 8 Be- und 2 B-Atome. Raumgruppe ist P4/nmm. Die Atomlagen sind speziell und erfordern nur die Bestimmung von 3 z-Koordinaten, die durch zweidimensionale FOURIER-Synthesen und anschließende Verfeinerung ermittelt werden konnten. Die vorliegende Struktur läßt sich durch das Bestreben des Boratoms, durch Bindungsbeziehungen zu den benachbarten Be-Atomen ein Elektronenoktett zu erhalten, erklären.
