Purest BJ3 is decomposed on tantalum wires at about 1000°C yielding large quantities of well-crystallized α-rhombohedral, red boron and other modifications of boron. This is achieved by zone melting of the employed BI3. The formation of red boron is discussed.

Durch Pyrolyse von reinstem BJ3 bei etwa 1000°C an Tantaldrähten läßt sich grobkristallines α-rhomboedrisches Bor in größeren Mengen neben anderen Bor-Modifikationen darstellen. Das wird unter anderem durch Zonenschmelzen des eingesetzten Borjodids erreicht. Die Bildungsweise des roten Bors wird diskutiert.
