Description / Table of Contents: Condensation of diphenyl thiophosphinyl amide with diphenyl thiophosphinyl chloride by means of a strong base yields the imide [(C6H5)2PS]2NH which because of its acidity has been named tetraphenyl dithioimidophosphinic acid. Infrared and NMR spectroscopy have been used to establish the NH form. Methylation proceeds exclusivly by attack on sulphur finally giving the phosphazenium salts [(C6H5)2PSCH3]2N+X-. The lithium salt of the imide shows the characteristics of a chelate.
