    Description / Table of Contents: NI3 · NH3 crystallizes in the monoclinic, centrosymmetric space group P21/m. The unit cell with the dimensions a = 7.132, b = 7,506, c = 6.324 Å and β = 98.6° contains two formula units of NI3 · NH3. The crystal structure was solved by means of three-dimensional PATTERSON and difference FOURIER syntheses and refined by the method of “least squares” to a reliability index of 5.6%.The structure of NI3 · NH3 does not consist of isolated molecules, but contains NI4-tetrahedra as essential building elements; the tetrahedra are connected by common corners, thus building zigzag chains in the direction of [010]. The iodine atoms of the tetrahedra which do not participate in the connexion, interact rather strongly with the corresponding iodine atoms of neighbouring chains. The ammonia molecule is bonded to one of these iodine atoms by its lone pair.

Die Elementarzelle mit den Abmessungen a = 7,132 Å, b = 7,506 Å, c = 6,324 Å und β = 98,6° enthält 2 Formeleinheiten NJ3 · NH3. Die Kristallstruktur wurde mit Hilfe dreidimensionaler PATTERSON- und Differenz-FOURIER-Synthesen aufgeklärt und nach der Methode der „kleinsten Quadrate“ bis auf einen Zuverlässigkeitsindex von 5,6% verfeinert.Die NJ3 · NH3-Struktur baut sich nicht aus isolierten Molekeln auf, sondern enthält als wesentliches Bauelement NJ4-Tetraeder, die über gemeinsame Ecken derart verknüpft sind, daß Zickzack-Ketten längs [010] entstehen. Die nicht an der Verknüpfung beteiligten Jodatome der Tetraeder stehen in relativ starker Wechselwirkung zu entsprechenden Jodatomen von Nachbarketten. Die Ammoniakmolekel ist über ihr freies Elektronenpaar jeweils an eines dieser Jodatome gebunden.
