Description / Table of Contents:
In presence of weak Lewis bases (ether, dioxane), cis addition of R2AlH (R = isobutyl) occurs at me2(CH2Br)Si—C≡C—SiHme2 (a) (me = methyl), thus increasing the reactivity of CH2Br-group so that ring closure takes place under release of HBr to yield 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,3-disila-cyclopentene-4 (b), (isolated by hydrolysis). In side reactions, cis and trans disilylethenes, disilylethanes and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,3-disilacyclopentane (c) are formed by addition and subsequent hydrolysis; me3Si—CH2—CH2—Sime2R (d) after isobutylation of the SiH-group and me3Si—C≡C—SiHme2 (e) by hydrogenation of the CH2Br-group. If pentane without a Lewis base is used as solvent, then addition, isobutylation of the SiH-group and hydrogenation of the CH2Br-group yield (d) (70%), whereas (b) and (c) appear bur in small amounts. In the presence of strong Lewis bases (N-methyl-pyrrolidine) no addition of R2AlH at (a), occurs but rather the hydrogenation of the CH2Br-group to yield (e) (95%), since the stable donor-acceptor-complex R2AlH: N-methylpyrrolidine prevents the addition of the alane. Under same conditions, me2(CH2Cl)Si—C≡C—SiHme2 leads to ring closure to but a limited extent (insufficient reactivity of the CH2Cl-group).
Notes:
