Description / Table of Contents:
Chloromethyl-dichloroarsine, ClCH2AsCl2, is prepared by alkylation of AsCl3 by means of bis-chloromethyl-mercury and by commutation of AsCl3 and chloromethyl-diphenylarsine at 270°C. Its chlorine atoms may be replaced intermittently by bromine or iodine using LiBr or NaI as exchanging reactants. Its interaction with thiourea yields an adduct which on alkaline hydrolysis gives 1.4-epithio-2.5-dithia-1.4-diarsenane, (AsCH2S)2S. Substitution of oxygen for the bridging sulphur atom in this compound results in the formation of 1.4-epoxo-2.5-dithia-1.4-diarsenane, (AsCH2S)2O.
Notes:
