    Description / Table of Contents: The equilibrium of manganate(V)/manganate(VI) in alkaline meltsAbsorbance of manganese containing melts at 400°C was measured at pressures of oxygen up to 0.9 atm and of water vapour up to 0.3 atm. In NaOH melts only manganate(V) was present, in KOH melts, besides this, manganate(VI) appeared amounting to 39 mole-%. The percentage of manganate(VI) in KNO3 melts amounted to 96 mole-% only in presence of a very small portion of KOH. Disproportionation of manganate(V) in NaOH and KOH melts is reversible beginning below 130 to 220°C.
    Notes: Extinktionsmessungen an hängenden Schmelzen bei Sauerstoffdrucken bis zu 0,9 Atm. und Wasserdampfdrucken big zu 0,3 Atm. ergaben, daß bei 400°C in manganathaltigen NaOH-Schmelzen nur Manganat (V), in. KOH-Schmelzen neb en Manganat(V) auch Manganat(VI) in Anteilen bis zu 39 Mol-% auftritt. Der Anteil von Manganat(VI) erreichte in KNO3-Schmelzen etwa 96 Mol-% nur bei sehr geringem KOH-Zusatz. Die Disproportionierung von Manganat(V) in NaOH- und KOH-Schmelzen ist reversibel: sie setzt unterhalb 130 bis 220°C ein.
