Description / Table of Contents: On the Behaviour of Aluminium Salts with Differently Condensed Al-Oxo Cations in the Reaction with Ferron [8-Hydroxo-(7)-Iodoquinoline Sulphonic Acid-(5)]Compared with the monomeric cation [Al(H2O)6]3+, condensed Al-oxo cations like [Al2(OH)2(H2O)8]4+ and [Al13O4(OH)24(H2O)12]7+ react more slowly with ferron to form the Al-ferron complex which can be determined spectrophotometrically (acetate buffered solution, pH 5, 25°C). The higher the degree of condensation, the slower the complex formation occurs. This is due to different rates of the degradation of the polymeric cations to the monomeric one, out of which only the latter is able to form the ferron complex.
