For large spherical particles the scattering at small angels can be described by approximative formulas of the geometrical optics. The values for the scattering intensity calculated by means of this formulas are compared with those of the exact Mie theory. The use of the approximation is of particular importance for the interpretation of light scattering curves in the range of Mie scattering and for numerical calculations of the Mie scattering intensity.

Für große kugelförmige Teilchen läßt sich die Streuung bei kleinen Winkeln durch Näherungsformeln der geometrischen Optik beschreiben. Die mit Hilfe dieser Formeln berechneten Werte für die Streuintensität werden mit denen der exakten Mie-Theorie verglichen. Von besondere Bedeutung ist die Verwendung der Näherung für die Auswertung von Streulichtkurven im Bereich der Mie-Strerung und der numerischen Berechnung der Streuintensität nach Mie.
