Notes: Dialkylphenacylsulfonium salts in which the anions are of the general type BF4-, AsF6-, PF6-, and SbF6- are a new class of useful photoinitiators for cationic polymerization. On irradiation these salts underwent reversible ylid formation with the simultaneous generation of strong Brφnsted acids. The photoinitiated cationic polymerization of a number of monomers with dialkylphenacylsulfonium salts demonstrated the utility of these new photoinitiators.
