Description / Table of Contents: Poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohols) with vinyl alcohol contents between 0 and 21 mole-% have been prepared by alcoholysis of poly(vinyl acetates) which were not branched via ester bridges. The copolymers do not associate according to light scattering measurements at 25°C in methanol, acetone, and butanone. This behavior is in contrast to that of poly(methyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol methacrylates). It can be explained by the formation of intermerar hydrogen bonds between neighbored vinylalcohol units.
