This paper describes how a classical light scattering apparatus (FICA 42000) can be modified in order to allow measurements with red light using a gas laser. This apparatus is calibrated, and experimental results are compared with the theoretical results. The advantages of such measurements are that, when red light is used, one has no fluorescence problems, and the properties of the laser (i.e., collimation, stability and illumination) allow the possibility of simultaneous measurements of both gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and light scattering.
