Abstract We report a new method, how to derive the primary energy spectrum of an X-ray tube. As a starting point, we use scattering data of an amorphous sample taken as a function of angle in energy dispersive scans. Results are presented for the amorphous alloy Fe78B13Si9 using transmission geometry, measured with a Mo tube at 50 kV and 14 mA. The primary beam intensityI 0(E) drops monotonically when the energyE increases from 20–40 keV.
