Abstract This paper investigates theoretically the origin and the properties of the eddy currents which originate in a conducting ferromagnet after a Barkhausen jump (B.j.) has been realized. The possibility of the origin of negative B.j.'s, which have been determined experimentally, are brought into relation with the magnetic fieldH′ set up by the above-mentioned eddy currents. From the time relationship of the fieldH′, it is concluded that the time interval between a positive B.j. and a negative B.j. coupled with it is of the order of 10−7s.
