Conclusions 1. The administration of the precursor of noradrenaline L-dopa subcutaneously to rats in a dose of 10 mg/kg restored spontaneous ovulation in the rats under conditions of experimental anovulation caused by destruction of the hippocampus. 2. The injection of microdoses of theα-adrenoblocker phentolamine (10μg) into the region of the dorsal hippocampus partially blocked spontaneous ovulation, but had little effect on ovulation induced by sex hormones. 3. The injection of microdoses of theβ-adrenoblocker propranolol (10μg) into the region of the dorsal hippocampus had an inhibitory effect on gonadotropic function according to the test with compensatory hypertrophy of the ovary; it decreased the content of FSH in the hypothesis, but did not affect ovulation. 4. It can be assumed on the basis of the data presented that the adrenergic mediation of the dorsal hippocampus is involved in the physiological mechanisms of ovulation and compensatory hypertrophy of the ovary. Moreover, the importance of other types of neural mediation apparently has not been ruled out.
