Abstract We study the possibility and describe the technique of determination of planet spin vector using the radar very-long baseline interferometry. In this method, a narrow-band sounding signal of a ground-based transmitting station is used. It is shown that, compared to the usual clean-radar techniques, the radio interferometric method allows one to determine almost “instant” values (averaged over an observation interval of a few months) of the angular velocity and spin vector of a planet. The experimental errors are estimated using numerical modeling.
