Summary 1. A description is given of the determination of densities of aqueous solutions with the aid of a single quartz pycnometer having a capillary neck. The. determination is accurate within 0.001%. 2. The densities of aqueous uranyl nitrate solutions were investigated over the concentration range 0.7–52.4% by weight, the results being accurate within 0.01%. 3. The apparent molar volumes of uranyl nitrate In aqueous solutions at 25° were calculated. They can be expressed by the equation: $$\varphi V_{UO_2 (NO_3 )_2 } = 65,9 + 5,23\sqrt m .$$ 4. The apparent molar volume of the uranyl ion UO 2 2 + was calculated for infinitely dilute aqueous solution at 25°. In the system of Fajans and Johnson it is 7.1 ml/g-ion.
