Abstract The results of mechanical tests of chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel in uniaxial tension in the strain-rate range of 10−3–5104 sec−1 and at temperatures ranging from 77 to 523 K are presented. The increase in strength and plasticity characteristics with increasing strain rate is confirmed. The results of the investigations conducted contradict the hypothesis of equivalence of the effect of a temperature reduction and increase in strain rate on the mechanical characteristics of metals.
