Abstract Understanding the chemistry at buried MoS2−Fe interfaces is important since it impacts on the adhesion and wear characteristics of lubricant-substrate systems. To probe those syntems, conversion Electron Mössbauer Spectroscopy (CEMS) was employed to provide nondestructive characterization of the chemistry and crystallographic orientation at the interface.
