Abstract From measurements of the water content of a phosphate glass after increasing periods of refining, the number of hydroxyl groups per phosphorus atom and hence the degree of cross-linking have been calculated. The changes in transformation temperature with crosslink density are similar to the relationship observed in organic polymers and can be described by an equation derived by Di Marzio.
