Abstract Parity non-conserving neutron transmission asymmetries have been calculated for unpolarized beams on polarized targets. As the neutron beam propagates through a polarized target, some components are preferentially absorbed. This acquired polarization complicates the interpretation of transmission measurements. We extend the analysis of Postma et al. to include parity mixing in the neutron resonances and emphasize the importance of the nuclear resonance spectroscopy. The relative importance of the acquired polarization contribution is determined by the spectroscopic parameters.
