Summary Horizontal slices of renal medulla, cortex and liver were incubated in the Warburg-apparatus using a Krebs-medium with 150 mval Na/l and 350 mval Na/l respectively. 20 min after start of incubation O2-consumption of medulla was 17% higher in 350 than in 150 mval Na/l, while cortex and liver showed a considerable decrease. It is concluded that medulla is adapted to a fluid high in sodium content. With regard to frog skin the increased O2-consumption is understood as being the consequence of increased sodium transport and thus reflects a conditional state of medulla.

Zusammenfassung Bei 17 Kaninchen wurden Horizontalschnitte der äußeren Markzone, der Rinde und der Leber in parallelen Versuchsansätzen in 150 mval Na/l und 350 mval Na/l enthaltendem Krebsmedium mit Substrat inkubiert. Der O2-Verbrauch war 20 min nach Inkubationsbeginn in der Außenzone um bis 17% erhöht bei der größeren Na-Konzentration, während Rinde und Leber bei höherem Na-Gehalt weniger O2 verbrauchen. Daraus wird geschlossen, daß für die äußere Markzone ein Milieu mit höherem Na-Gehalt adäquat ist. Die Atmungssteigerung wird in Analogie zur Froschhaut als Ausdruck eines vermehrten aktiven Na-Transportes angesehen und spiegelt einen Funktionszustand der Außenzone wider.
