Notes: Abstract A non-intrusive optical measuring technique, the planar laser induced fluorescence is described to investigate mass transfer of a fluorescent dye (rhodamine B) across an interface between two partial immiscible liquids (1-butanol and water). The spatial resolution of the measurement technique used for the mass transfer investigations was 31.6 μm. The measured concentration profiles do not correspond with those, which were expected on the basis of usual theories. A solution equilibrium at the phase boundary could not be found.
