Notes: Abstract The increasing use of ovulation inhibitors in human society raises the question of their carcinogenic effect. Therefore vaginal smears of patient taking the pill over a long period were compared with smears showing histologically chronic inflammation, carcinoma in situ or invasive cancer of the cervix uteri. Dryweight and its concentration was determined on native cells using interference microscopy. After fixation and staining the values of DNA, RNA and Histones of the nucleus were measured by microscope photometer. The planimetric analysis of simultaneously taken microphotographs yields the amount of heterochromatin. All results were put in diagrams and compared one with another. Thus we found, that the changes in cell metabolism caused by the pill are not comparable to them in carcinoma in situ or invasive cancer of the human portio uteri.
