Zusammenfassung Es wird die Stärke der Metachromotropie in 29 Fällen pathologisch veränderter Korneae durch eine Toluidinblau-pH-Färbereihe ermittelt. Als Vergleichsfärbungen dienen Alcianblau und kolloidales Eisen. Starke Normabweichungen zeigen vor allem entzündliche Hornhautaffektionen (herpetischer Genese, Sekundärinfektionen nach Verletzungen) und Mißerfolge bei der Keratoplastik. Die Ergebnisse werden diskutiert und mit vorhandenen biochemischen Daten verglichen.

Summary The degree of metachromotropy was ascertained in 29 cases with pathologically altered corneas by means of staining with a series of toluidine blue solutions of varying pH. Alcian Blue and colloidal iron were used as comperative stains. Inflammatory conditions of the cornea (of herpetic origin, secondary infections following injuries) and keratoplasty failure showed great deviations from the normal. The results are discussed and compared with available biochemical data.
