Notes:
Summary Authors injected a suspension of Brown-Pearce cancer cells into the left ventricle of 10 rabbits. The venous blood of the lower extremities of these “first rabbits” was injected into the ear vein of 20 intact “second rabbits”. In the surviving 7 “first rabbits” metastases in the skeletal muscles frequently developed. The majority of “second rabbits” developed tumors indicating a transmuscular passage of tumour cells emboli in the “first rabbits”. Transmuscular passage of tumour cell was found not only immediately after the injection of the tumour cells, but also three minutes later. These facts contradict the rather speculative theory according to which the skeletal muscle is an unsuitable “soil” for the development of secondary tumours.
