Notes: Summary The origin of pigment granules is investigated in the retinal pigment epithelium of a 6 weeks old human embryo (8 mm C—R length). The development of the granules starts with a bulging of the outer nuclear membrane. Later on this bulging increases to form a blister which then separates from the space between the inner and outer nuclear membranes. This is considered to be the earliest stage of developing pigment granules situated free in the cytoplasma of the cell.
