Abstract The1H- and13C-NMR spectra of platinum(II), nickel(II), and ethylcobalt(III)Schiff base complexes of type 1 are reported. The platinum complexes show spin-spin coupling between platinum and the azomethine protons. While the platinum and cobalt complexes show upfield shifting of their13C resonances relative to the nickel complexes, the ethylcobalt complex1 b is characterized by highfield shifting of several13C resonances. Structural and electronic arguments explain this behaviour. The influence of the peripheral substituents on the shifting of13C resonances is related to the possibility of forming macrocyclic derivatives.
