Summary Immunofluorescence was used to demonstrate the presence and distribution of animalspecific membrane components within the plasma membranes ofXenopus/carrot heterokaryons. The inhibitor of cellulose synthesis, 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile, was used to impair cell wall regeneration so that the plasma membranes of cultured heterokaryons would remain accessible to antibodies.Xenopus-Specific surface components were observed in heterokaryons after 14 days of culture.
