Summary Animal experiments with growing rats have shown a correlation between the volume of the tongue and the growth of the mandible. The surgical reduction of the tongue on growing rats brought about a reduction in the width and length of the dental arches.
Abstract:
Résumé Une expérience faite sur des rats en croissance a montré une corrélation entre le volume lingual eet la croissance mandibulaire. Aprè réduction du volume de la langue, less rats ont présenté une diminution en longueur et en largeur de l'arcade dentaire mandibulaire.

Zusammenfassung Aufgrund tierexperimenteller Untersuchungen an wachsenden Ratten konnte eine Korrelation zwischen Zungenvolumen und Unterkieferwachstum bestätigt werden: Die operative Verkleionerung der Zunge (d. h. des Zungenvolumens) bewirkt an wachsenden, Ratten eine Minderung der Zahnbogenabmessung in Länge und Breite.
