Summary This is a report on the frequency of variations, anomalies and deformities of the upper and middle cervical vertebrae of nearly 500 young patients. This was studied by the use of lateral cephalometric radiographs which provide an excellent picture of this region, especially since the homogeneous group of young patients X-rayed, showed no sign of orthopaedic problems. The notable results was that these anomalies tended to occur more frequently in patients with mandibular prognathism, whereas patients with open bite showed no significant differences when compared with the whole group of patients.

Résumé Les auteurs présentent une étude sur la fréquence des variations, des anomalies et des malformations de la colonne vertébrale au niveau cervical chez 500 jeunes patients. On a pris des téléradiographies en vue latérale qui fournissaient une excellente vision, particulièrement des parties haute et moyenne de la colonne vertébrale; on a pris également des radiographies à des sujets ne nécessitant aucun traitement orthopedique. thopedique. Par rapport au groupe témoin, les patients avec une prognathie inférieure montrent de frequentes différences, alors que les patients avec une béance ne présentent pas de discordance signifactive.

Zusammenfassung Es wird über die Häufigkeit von Variationen, Anomalien und Mißbildungen der oberen und mittleren Halswirbelsäule bei fast 500 jugendlichen Patienten berichtet. Für die Auswertung wurden die Fernröntgenaufnahmen des Schädels im seitlichen Strahlengang herangezogen, die gleichzeitig eine ausgezeichnete Darstellung der oberen und mittleren Halswirbelsäule ergeben, zumal diese Röntgenbilder ohne orthopädische Notwendigkeit bei einem homogenen jugendlichen Patientengut angefertigt wurden. Auffallendes Ergebnis ist die Häufung dieser Veränderungen bei Patienten des progenen Formenkreises, während Patienten mit offenem Biß keine signifikante Abweichung zum Gesamtkollektiv erkennen lassen.
