Notes: Cotton–Mouton measurements on dilute solutions of polydiacetylene poly(4-BCMU) are reported. Measurements of dΔn/dH2 vs temperature indicate that in equilibrium the red phase contains small aggregates of rods, generally numbering N〈5. Measurements made at fixed temperature over three decades of time after rapid cooling from the yellow into the red phase indicate that the rod-to-coil transition is a single chain process, with rod aggregation occurring immediately thereafter.
