Dielectric loss spectra of 4-cyano-4-n-heptyl biphenyl liquid crystal (7CB), in decalin glass and in the frequency range 100 Hz–10 MHz, have been measured. Two distinct loss processes, namely β1 and β2 have been observed below Tg. The β2 process is analyzed further in terms of a stretched exponential decay function and the β1 process is fitted to a single exponential decay function. A multioscillator model is used to fit the far infrared spectrum of 7CB in decalin glass.
