The gas chromatographic mass spectrometric properties of the dimethylisopropylsilyl ether derivatives of 27 hydroxysteroids have been studied. The retention times of the dimethylisopropylsilyl ether derivates were close to those of the dimethyl-n-propylsilyl ether derivatives. The mass spectra were characterized by their marked simplicity and the molecular ion cluster, [M]+·, [M-15]+ and [M-43]+. The [M-43]+ ion, corresponding to loss of the isopropyl group from the molecular ion in these derivatives, was very intense and was frequently observed as a principal ion. In particular, it was found as a principal ion in the DMiPS ether derivatives of pregnanediols.
