Der Methylether 5 der „Herzgift-Methylreduktinsäure“ (2), eines Abbauproduktes der Calotropis-Cardenolide, wird in einer mehrstufigen Synthese aus D-Glucose als chiralem Ausgangsmaterial hergestellt. Damit wird die durch Abbaureaktionen getroffene Konfigurationszuordnung für 2 durch Synthese von 5 bestätigt.
