Abstract We communicate a particular aspect of our current experiments investigating nonresonant Coulomb break-up of 156 MeV6Li projectiles in the field of 208pb. The triple differential cross sections measured at very forward emission angles and low relative energies of the a and d fragments show neither any conspicuous “forward-backward” asymmetry in the system of the decaying6Li nor they indicate any significant E1 contribution. This is an apparent contrast to the findings recently reported for a different experiment at 60 MeV, the results of which can hardly be understood in the frame of the Coulomb excitation approach.
