Description / Table of Contents:
Contents The principle of operation of permanent magnet stepping motors with small step angles is explained by employing the theory of rotating field harmonics. A general correlation for suitable numbers of stator and rotor slots is developed making it possible to calculate the step angle and the ratio of speed to input frequency as well as to estimate the inductances and iron losses. Based on these results suggestions for the design of drive circuits are given. It is proposed to indicate the described type of stepping motor as „harmonic stepper”.
Notes:
