Notes: Electron-diffraction patterns both with hexagonal and trigonal symmetry were obtained from graphite. The trigonal patterns are shown to arise from a stacking fault on the basal plane. This observation is a consequence of the dependence of the pattern symmetry on the symmetry of the whole crystal, not only the symmetry of the unit cell.
