Notes:
Narrow fingers that occupy much less than one-half the cell width have been observed in a carefully prepared Hele–Shaw cell. These fingers sometimes show dendritic instability. They are in most respects similar to those produced artificially by Couder et al. [Phys. Rev. A 34, 5175 (1986); Europhys. Lett. 2, 437 (1986)] and are believed to represent a new class of solutions to the shape selection problem.
