Notes: Abstract Rapid tissue alterations were observed, marked by cyanosis and dark-blue-red colouring of the surface of the kidneys, in xenogenous extracorporal perfusion of pig kidneys into the circulation of dogs. Blood flow decreased to less than 10% of the initial value after pulsation in the graft artery had initially been maintained. The development of circulatory stop could be delayed significantly by gravitation perfusion and by adding different drugs to perfusing blood. Twenty times of the initial value could be obtained by addition of xantinol nicotinate. Heparin, as well as different immunosuppressive drugs considerably prolonged perfusion time. Macro- and microangiographic examinations and histological changes after injection of a Latex-ink-mixture as well as of micropaque showed a stop of contrast medium at the periphery as well as symptoms of a serofibrinous and later on hemorrhagic inflammation in the perfused kidneys, independent of drugs given and perfusion times obtained after circulatory stop. Kidney weights after different perfusion times decreased at first after xenogenous perfusion. Later kidney weight increased considerably.
