Notes: We investigated the optical anisotropy and the normalized areas of persistent spectral holes in organic glasses over almost 1 week (4 decades). The systems studied were 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone and tetracene in an EtOH/MeOH glass. The areas of the holes decay on a logarithmic time scale, but the anisotropy remains constant. We draw the following conclusions: (i) There is no reorientation of dye molecules in the glass. (ii) Molecules relaxing from the product state reassume the position in the frequency domain and in space which they had before hole burning. (iii) A dye molecule seems to be strongly coupled just to one two level system (TLS).

Notes: Abstract The positron spectrum emitted in the U-U-reaction at subthreshold energy could be interpreted in terms of the formation of a giant nucleus if the binding of the latter is 100 MeV stronger than predicted by the usual droplet model parametrisation. We analyse the extrapolation to giant nuclei by accounting properly for the error propagation when the parameters are fitted to measured binding energies and radii. The influence of higher order terms is discussed.

Notes: Abstract By combining the sum-rule approximation to nuclear giant resonances with a generator-coordinate description of the collective ground-state we obtain a simple estimate of the collective ground-state correlations. We investigate the approach for a variety of nuclei and forces. The correlation effects are small but not negligible in view of the precision achieved in modern Skyrme-Hartree-Fock calculations.

Description / Table of Contents: Thermostable poly(phenyl quinoxaline) adheres only insufficiently to copper. Treatment of the copper surface in a nonthermal plasma of a radio frequency glow discharge increases the adhesion significantly. Careful plasma oxidation of the copper surface and plasma-deposited glow polymer layers as adhesion promoters were found to be particularly useful. In the case of oxidative modification the adhesion of poly(phenyl quinoxaline) has a maximum depending on the degree of surface oxidation.
