Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei 43 Patienten zwischen 1 and 75 J. wurde ein zentralvenöses komplett implantierbares Kathetersystem insbesondere zur cytostatischen Behandlung eingesetzt.
Notes: Summary In 43 patients 1–75 years of age, we used a totally implantable venous catheter system for mainly the treatment of leukemia and cancer. The longest observation period was 13 months. Four patients with severe agranulocytosis and leukemia suffered from infections which, in one case, was caused by mucoviscodosis, in two cases by faulty puncture of the catheter, and in one case by rupture of the connection between the port and catheter. Port puncture was painful in one patient and delayed wound healing was observed in another. Unlike common indwelling catheters, there is a low complication rate when this system is used, even though it may be used for a long period.
