Notes: A haemolytic plaque assay was adopted to detect release of lactoferrin and mycloperoxidase (MPO) from single neutrophils. Target erythrocytes coated with protein A were bound as a monolayer by poly-l-lysine to the surface of plastic dish. Secreted lactoferrin and MPO induced plaque formation dependent on the reaction with complement and specific antiserum producing lysis of the protein-A-coated sheep red blood cells Lactoferrin was found to be released spontaneously from a fraction of neutrophils while MPO was released only after phagocytosis, reflecting different mechanisms for degranulation of MPO-containing azurophil and lactoferrin-containing specific granules.

Notes: Summary Steady membrane voltage fluctuations have been observed in atrial muscle fibres of the carp. These voltage fluctuations produce minute mechanical oscillations, as revealed by an interference contrast microscope. The steady voltage fluctuations may be related to abnormal automaticity in the heart.

Notes: Summary The paper reports an experimental study of miscible displacement of soluble salts during infiltration and redistribution of water in vertical, homogeneous columns of sandy, sandy loam and clay soils with initially uniform salt and moisture contents. Calcium chloride, mixed uniformly in initially dry and moist soils, was leached with water under transient and steady infiltration conditions. The salt and water profiles were determined immediately following infiltration and after matching total infiltration and redistribution times. Irrespective of different flow conditions and soil types, the “centre of mass” of salt front coincided with the “piston front” that would exist given perfect displacement of water initially present in the soil by the water being infiltrated (piston-flow model). Furthermore the advance of “centre of mass” of salt front was independent of the water application rate and initial soil water content in all soils following both infiltration and redistribution.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Comparative trials were carried out of the radial immuno-diffusion test (RID) described by Shepard & Secor (1969) and two variations of the micro-precipitation test (MP) for the serological identification of potato virus X (PVX). With eye cuttings of three X-susceptible varieties (Irish Cobbler, Oberarnbacher Frühe and Sabina) and one X-resistant variety. (Sagitta), the RID gave similar results to those obtained with the standard MP used in the DDR (German Democratic Republic) up to 1973 (Lüsewitzer Standard Test (LST) (Table 1), while an improved variant of the MP, the ammonium sulphate test (AsT), identified a rather larger number of diseased plants. In a later investigation carried out on material of the same varieties grown in the open (Table 2), the same level of detection could be achieved with the RID when combined with an after treatment of the agar plates with 2% acetic acid as with the AsT. Further experiments were carried out on artificially infected breeding lines as part of resistance tests. In this case the RID and the AsT each detected the same number of X-infected plants, the agreement between the two was, however, only, 50 to 73%. Finally, fewer positive reactions were obtained by means of the biological test (BT) onGomphrena globosa L. than with the serological tests (Fig. 2). Altogether, the investigations described above provided no evidence of greater sensitivity of the RID as compared with the MP. A substantial advantage of the RID was, however, the lesser amount of work it involved.
73% betrug.

Notes: Abstract Urinary leakage after renal transplantation is a serious complication that can lead to diagnostic difficulties. A case is reported of urinoma secondary to ureteral fistula characterized in the routine study by a photon-deficient area. Only the image obtained at 6 h allowed a correct diagnosis. The causes for this are discussed and the need to include a delayed study in the follow-up protocol of these patients is emphasized.

Notes: Abstract We describe the fabrication and electrical characteristics of niobium oxide-barrier tunnel junctions with counterelectrodes of lead/lead alloy. Primary attention is directed to the experimental conditions necessary to obtain high-quality tunnel barriers as well as studies on characterizing the atomic structure of the barrier region. In order to study the tunnel barrier homogeneity in the tunneling region the magnetic field dependence of the critical Josephson current is investigated. TheI–V characteristics and dependence of the critical Josephson current on temperature are analyzed quantitatively by using a proximity effect model. Finally, we discuss experimental results on the improvement of junction quality by including traces of carbon in the rf argon plasma during the sputter cleaning of niobium base electrodes.

Notes: The influence of impurities and of an interface barrier on the critical temperature of a superconductor-normal (SN) metal sandwich is studied in the Cooper limit. The investigations are based on new equations which allow us to deal with inhomogeneous, dirty superconducting systems near the critical temperature. In contrast with previous treatments, it is shown that at finite film thicknesses,T c is not only dependent on the N to S thickness ratio, but also on the absolute thickness values, the transmission probability of the interface barrier, and the mean free electron paths. Our results permit the determination of the stay probabilities of McMillan 's tunneling model and the effective length of de Gennes' extended boundary condition on the integral kernel which determinesT c. Finally, it is shown how the conventional Cooper limit result forT c by de Gennes is approached.

Notes: Abstract A diverse set of computer programs has been developed at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)to process geophysical data obtained from boreholes. These programs support such services as digitizing analog records, reading and processing raw data, cataloging and storing processed data, retrieving selected data for analysis, and generating data plots on several different devices. A variety of geophysical data types are accommodated, including both wireline logs and laboratory analyses of downhole samples. Many processing tasks are handled by means of a single, flexible, general-purpose, data-manipulation program. Separate programs are available for processing data from density, gravity, velocity, and epithermal neutron logs. The computer-based storage and retrieval system, which has been in operation since 1973, currently contains over 4400 data files. Most of this data was obtained from the Nevada Test Site (NTS)in conjunction with the nuclear test program. Each data file contains a single geophysical parameter as a function of depth. Automatic storage and retrieval are facilitated by the assignment of unique file names that define the storage location of each data file. Files of interest to the user may be located and retrieved by means of a search program that examines the catalog. A convention recognized by all programs in the system is that of a zero ordinate denoting a gap in an otherwise continuous data trace. This convention provides a simple mechanism for editing and displaying data files in an automated and consistent manner.
