Notes: Summary Crystallization of polyacrylonitrile has been carried out at different temperatures from fractionated sample, and different morphological growth features obtained are compared with those observed previously from unfractionated sample. Several new growth features like rectangular single crystals, twinned crystals, ovals and spherulites have been observed. The role of different typical growth features for the development of spherulites has been studied. It seems that the proposed growth mechanism for the development of spherulite grown either from the melt or concentrated solution is the same for different polymers. From the observed growth features of dendritic nature in different conditions, a mechanism of development of dendritic spherulite is discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Cu(II), Ni(II) und Co(II)-Chelat-Polymere wurden aus 4,4′-Dihydroxy-3,3′-diacetyl-biphenyl-bisthiosemicarbazon (L-1) und 4,4′-Dihydroxy-3,3′-dipropionyl-biphenyl-bis-thiosemicarbazon (L-2) hergestellt.
Notes: Cu(II), Ni(II), and Co(II) chelate polymers of 4,4′-dihydroxy-3,3′-diacetyl biphenyl bisthiosemicarbazone (L-1), and 4,4′-dihydroxy 3,3′-dipropionyl biphenyl bis-thiosemicarbazone (L-2), have been prepared. The electrical resistivity and magnetic moment have been measured. The Hall effect and Seebeck effect studies of CuL-1 have shown it to be a p-type semiconductor, and the mechanism of transport is hopping type.

Notes: The intrinsic viscosity of cellulose triacetate (CTA) in chloroform-methanol, chloroform-butanol, chloroform-propanol, tetrachloroethane-butanol, dimethyl formamide-methanol, and nitromethane-methanol mixtures is found to increase initially with the amounts of alcohols in the mixture, then decreases in each studied system after attaining a maximum value, while in chloroform-cyclohexane and dioxane-benzene systems values are found to decrease with the decreasing solvent power. The type of the polymer conformation in the binary solvents is found to be dependent on the acetic acid content of the polymer. Studies on the temperature dependence of viscosity in pure and mixed solvent systems indicate that CTA behaves as a stiff chain molecule in the solution.

Notes: The effects of temperature and solvent on the adsorption of CTA and CAB on porous adsorbents (calcium silicate, aluminium silicate, and cellulose powder) have been studied. The adsorption of polymers is found to increase with increase in temperature. The values of heat of adsorption (ΔHad) have been obtained from the adsorption data. The studies of adsorption from different solvents indicated that the polymer adsorption is dependent on two factors: polymer-adsorbent and polymer/solvent interactions. The adsorption data are also treated with Langmuir, Simha-Frisch-Eirich, Gilliland and Guttoff, Forsman and Hughes, and Silberberg theories.

Notes: A study on the adsorption of polymethylmethacrylate from binary solvent systems is reported. The adsorbents used are aluminium silicate and calcium silicate. An attempt is made to explain the experimental data in terms of solvent/polymer and solvent/adsorbent interactions and of the cohesive energy density concept. The results are satisfactorily interpreted in terms of solvent/polymer and solvent/adsorbent interactions.
